The Batwa, also known as pygmies, lived in harmony with the Bwindi forest for over 60,000 years. They were expert hunters, gatherers, and healers who knew every plant, animal, and stream in the forest. When Bwindi was designated as a national park to protect the endangered mountain gorillas, the Batwa were displaced from their ancestral lands.

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will take a domestic flight to Kihihi or Kisoro airstrip. The flight offers stunning aerial views of Lake Victoria and the Ugandan countryside. Upon landing, you will be met by your guide and drive to your lodge in Bwindi. You will arrive in the late afternoon, with time to relax and prepare for the next day’s trek. After an early breakfast at 5:30 AM, you will drive to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla etiquette. You will then be assigned to a specific gorilla family based on your fitness level. The trek through the dense rainforest can take 2 to 7 hours. You will be accompanied by experienced guides, trackers, and armed rangers. Porters are available for hire at 20 dollars.
Once you find the gorillas, you will spend one magical hour observing them Bwindi gorilla trekking destination . Today you have a free day to rest. Optional activities include a nature walk in Bwindi (30 dollars), a community visit to a Bakiga village (20 dollars), bird watching with a specialist guide (40 dollars), or a second gorilla trek (additional permit required). Overnight at your lodge.
After breakfast, you will fly back to Entebbe. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time to visit the Entebbe Botanical Gardens. You will then be transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
Trekking difficulty varies from moderate to strenuous. Treks last 2 to 7 hours authentic cultural tour leader . Porters are available to assist.
The minimum age for gorilla trekking is 15 years. There are no exceptions.
